How to Transition to Inbound Interactive

Here’s how to get started.


Step 1: Find out the terms of your present agreement

You may have a formal contract or a rolling month-by-month agreement with your existing marketing agency.

Once you have the agreement in front of you, find out:

  • How much you’re paying for the ongoing services provided by your agency
  • How long you’ve committed to – 1 month, 12 months, or longer?
  • When the contract is due for renewal

NOTE: There may be penalties for breaking a long-term agreement but a monthly ongoing deal is generally easier to transition from.

From this point, you can work with our team of professionals, who are well-versed in transitioning businesses smoothly and without ‘down time’ for your website or email.


Step 2: Find out what existing web services are provided and who owns what

What services are you currently receiving from your agency/provider?

You may be paying monthly for services such as:

  • Domain name hosting (e.g. example.com)
  • Website hosting
  • Email hosting
  • Search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Social media management services
  • Content creation e.g. blog service
  • Video, live chat, or form functionality on your website
  • AdWords or other pay-per-click (PPC) marketing services

If you choose to work with our team, we will uncover exactly what you’re paying for by conducting a full inventory of your existing web properties.

This ensures we understand the full scope of your campaign, where your accounts are registered and who owns/controls your emails and website files.

Here are a few key points to bear in mind:

  • You SHOULD own all the custom-written content on your website – but do you?
  • You may be leasing services such as live chat, newsletters, or forms
  • The design and graphics of your website may be owned by your marketing agency

If your website incorporates leased services and the design and graphics are owned by your agency, don’t worry: we can support you to have a new website created.

However, if we can maintain your existing website and save you money, we will support you to transition it to a new hosting account.


Step 3: We manage your domain name, website hosting & email

There are two important things to bear in mind with your domain name:

  • You should own your domain name, regardless of who registered it for you
  • Your main domain name is linked to your email and your website

We find out where your domain name is hosted. If you don’t have control over the account, we will configure it so that you do.

  • The Technical Contact of the domain names should include the names and contact details of your IT person or the third-party looking after your DNS management (in this case, us).

This will allow us to complete changes to the hosting details of the website (and your email) and to manage the DNS settings on your behalf.

  • The Registrant Contact and Administrative Contact for the domain names can be changed, if necessary, to the name of your business.

We’ll also check when the domain name renewal is due. If it is due to expire soon, we’ll encourage you to register it for another two years.

NOTE: for mail hosting, we recommend using Google Apps (GSuite) and we can work with your existing IT people or configure your mail ourselves to ensure the transition is seamless.


Step 4: We get controlling access to your Google & key web accounts

Once you’ve secured your domain name and hosting details, it’s time to make sure you have controlling access to your other key web accounts, such as:

  • Google Analytics – important for measuring website performance
  • Google Adwords – important for generating qualified traffic and leads
  • Google Search Console – important for SEO
  • Google Tag Manager – important for tracking and SEO
  • Google My Business – important for local SEO
  • Social Media Accounts – important for marketing and SEO

Our team will contact relevant parties to gain access to these accounts. If administrative control is not owned by your business, we create a new account that is.

Once completed, we provide a document listing your passwords and account access information.


Step 5: We transition you to a WordPress website and secure hosting solution

If you’re not already using WordPress, it’s our recommended platform for business websites.

  • It’s easy to update
  • It’s mobile-friendly
  • It’s fast and constantly evolving
  • It’s provides an excellent user experience

Step 6: We add ongoing functionality and content as required

A website should not be static. It should evolve over time – which means adding new content and functionality as required.

With WordPress, your team is able to add content, as the platform employs a simple-to-use editor (no HTML knowledge required).

However, we’re on hand to help you design new landing pages and unlock extra functionality using WordPress plugins, as your site evolves.

We can also help you create compelling content that attracts more of your target audience (many businesses don’t have time to create this themselves).


Step 7: We test and tweak website performance

Before going live with your new website, we:

  • Test the site’s speed, plugins, contact forms, etc. to ensure that everything is functioning correctly.
  • Set up 301 redirects that point any traffic from your old website to your new website – so that you don’t lose any visitors during the transition.
  • Look for ways to enhance the user experience – we’re big on this. We want your website to delight your visitors, keep them there for as long as possible, and convince them to call or contact you online. Anything we notice that damages the user experience, we’ll recommend tweaks for, as part of our ongoing commitment to your website’s performance.

Step 8: We get your website ranking on the first page of Google & bring qualified leads to your business
